Celebrations and Ceremonies

Ceremonies are a powerful and often delightful way to celebrate important life events such as weddings, vow renewals and civil unions, commitment ceremonies, “welcome to the world” celebrations of new children and pets, anniversaries, birthdays, rites of passage, business launches, home blessings... You name it and we can work together to make it happen. Ceremonies are also beautiful ways to honor those who have passed in Celebrations of Life.

These can be small and intimate or large and are always tailored to meet the wishes of the creators or participants.

I am credentialed as an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church Monastery (the same ordination as Steven Colbert, Conan O’Brien, and thousands of loving “regular” people around the country.

Sourcing Our Strengths (SOS)

For some of us it can be too easy to see what is not working in our lives, where we need help, where we fail. We can benefit from a healthy dose of focusing on our strengths and maybe even learning about ones we haven’t thought of.

Positive Psychology is an expanding field that supports this and more, based on the book, Authentic Happiness: Using the New Positive Psychology to Realize Your Potential for Lasting Fulfillment by Dr. Martin Seligman.

Explore how positivity can transform your life by taking some questionnaires at the Authentic Happiness website. Here are the ones I suggest most often and can be found at this link:

  • VIA Character Strengths

  • GRIT (Perseverance)

  • Any of the Meaning Questionnaires that interest you

Simply register on their site to take the surveys. Follow your curiosity. These tools are a fun way to learn more about your strengths, resilience and yourself. You might be surprised to see which are your top 5 character strengths!

Sourcing our Strengths is a journey within.

Self-Compassion ~ The gift that keeps on giving

It can be easy to lose ourselves in the hectic and stressful world we live in. So it is more important than ever that a we take care of ourselves, to give from an overflowing cup rather than draining ourselves. Self-compassion is foundational to a balanced life, living in harmony with our inner child and adult self.

“With self-compassion, we give ourselves the same kindness and support we’d give to a good friend.” ~Dr. Kristin Neff

Here’s a short test to determine your level of self-compassion at this link. The website has several different tools and practices to assist us in increasing our self-compassion.
